Stanford University School of Earth Science

Earth Sciences Energy & Environment Public Lecture Series

Each year, the School of Earth Sciences, along with the Woods Institute for the Environment, offers a series of evening lectures centered around a current, relevant topic from an Earth Science perspective. Each lecture in the series is free and open to the public. No registration is required.

Upcoming Lecture Series
Troubled Waters
The Energy and Environment Public Lecture Series continues in 2008 with Troubled Waters, four evenings of talks about water. Water is essential to life and fresh water issues around the globe dominate the news, yet millions live without access to a safe and plentiful water supply. Experts will discuss pollution, droughts, floods, conservation, public health, and politics from local to international; they will consider the state of water resources, how they can be managed, and what our water prospects are for the future.
The series begins on January 22 with a talk by Dr. Peter Gleick, president and co-founder of the Pacific Institute. An internationally recognized water expert, Gleick was named a MacArthur Fellow in 2003 and authors the biennial water report, The World's Water. The series will continue with talks on February 19, March 11, and April 8.
All lectures are in Kresge Auditorium on the Stanford campus and begin at 7:30 p.m. Lectures are free and open to the public. Seating is limited, so please arrive early. The Energy and Environmental Public Lecture Series is co-sponsored by the Stanford University School of Earth Sciences, and the Woods Institute for the Environment.
